Mobile Fidelity is proud to release Megadeth’s, most pivotal album, 1992’s Countdown to Extinction. The mixes on this MOFI release were done by band leader Dave Mustaine himself, the way the band wanted the listener to originally enjoy it.

Megadeth became one of the leading bands of the hard rock/metal genre during the mid-'80s through late 1990s. Each album the band released went at least gold, and they continually sold out arenas across America, in addition to developing a strong following overseas. By the early '90s, they had toned their music down slightly, yet that simply increased their following; all of their proper '90s albums debuted in the Top Ten.

1991 saw rival metal band Metallica break through to the mainstream with their self titled Black album. Sensing the possibility for similar success, former Metallica Lead Guitarist Dave Mustaine’s band Megadeth followed suit. Megadeth traded in their previous lengthy, progressive compositions for streamlined, tightly written and played songs more conducive to radio and MTV airplay. The results are artistically (as well as commercially) successful; songs like the mega-hit "Symphony of Destruction," "Skin O' My Teeth," "Foreclosure of a Dream," and "Sweating Bullets" are among the band's best. The result, Countdown to Extinction, was released in 1992, entering the charts at number two. The record went double-platinum and became the band's biggest hit, confirming that they had retained their audience in the wake of grunge.

Countdown to Extinction, the second Megadeth album featuring both virtuoso guitarist Marty Freidman, and hard hitting drummer Nick Menza, is considered by critics and fans worldwide as the bands most critical release in their entire catalog. Heralded as one the 90’s most popular hard rock/metal releases of the decade, this newly remastered/remixed release features remixes directly by Dave Mustaine, rare bonus tracks, as well as, alternate takes of originally released songs. Truly a must have for the Megadeth fan, as well as, any die hard hard rock/metal fan.

This album reached #2 on US Billboard charts and is certified double Platinum. Countdown to Extinction is the largest commercial success in Megadeth's history. The album was nominated for a "Best Metal Performance" Grammy.
